I took sunglasses, a sunhat, suncream, a cardigan and an umbrella and I used them all. The umbrella doubled up as a parasol and was only used briefly to keep the rain off. My train left Reading at 7.34 and we arrived in Wimbledon around 9.30. We joined the queue at 10 and were told that we would probably not get into the grounds before 5pm. We waited in the unusually uninterrupted bright sunshine for three hours and much to our delight got into the grounds just after 1. We watched an interesting Girl's game which Brit Alexandra Walker won in 3 sets. Then we headed for the hill. Henman Hill, Murray Mount, Murray Mountain, whatever you want to call it, it was packed and the atmosphere was great. The two Scots who started chanting Andy, Andy Andy, Andy Murray to the tune of "She'll be coming round the mountain" in the middle of the Safina match were joined by thousands of Murray supporters by the time his match began. Although we had to leave before it finished to catch the train home, we really enjoyed what we managed to see. We witnessed the first use of the new centre court roof and the beginning of a gripping match in a great atmosphere. We plan to go back next year, even earlier and armed with an even greater range of paraphanalia to protect us against the ever changing weather.
